Love is a beautiful thing. We love our kids, spouses, partners, and families. We love our favorite restaurants, desserts, shows, and books. We love our pets. We love actors we relate to, songs that speak to us, quotes that inspire us, and sometimes we love something so much it brings us to tears.
When someone asks you to talk about something you love, does exercise ever cross your mind? I’ve been in the fitness industry for 20 years and in most cases, exercise is a chore. It’s being done because someone told you to do it: your doctor said you had to, your coach required you to, your wedding dress dictated it to you, your friend begged you to
Very rarely do you hear someone say “I exercise because I love to.”
Maybe you DO love it though. Take a minute and set aside all of the extrinsic motivators that get you to exercise. Take a look within. You may find a little bit of love for this chore we call exercise. The end result of exercise is that you feel good, right? You look good, you sleep better, you rehabilitate injuries, you’re happier, and you’re less stressed. Intrinsically you may actually love fitness.
Not to be cliché but if you love something let it go, right? Well, I have let go of fitness on occasion for various reasons over the years. Let me tell you, it always comes back and it was definitely meant to be. Think about a time when you have stopped exercising, you feel worse, you gain weight, your aches and pains return and as a result…you always come back! Ever stop to think that you really DO love exercise? You don’t need to confess your love by shouting it from the rooftops (although if you do, please send me the video – Haha!) but admit it… you LOVE fitness and fitness loves you back! : )
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
