We’re coming close to the end of January and that means it’s a good time to reflect on your New Year’s resolution. Hopefully you’re sticking with it, but it’s possible that many of us have fallen off the wagon or are close to doing so. Below are a few tips on how to stick with your current goals and even begin creating new ones! Take these tips as helpful reminders to challenge yourself, you may be surprised by what you’re capable of!
- Make smaller goals. Set up small goals that will help you get closer to your resolution or ultimate goal. An example of this could be adding vegetables into one meal per day or drinking more water. If you start big, you may become intimated and unwilling to put in the effort to reach your larger goals, which in this case could be an “overall healthy lifestyle”. Baby steps will help you stay motivated! Be proud of yourself for even your smallest accomplishments.
- Reward yourself. Make sure this isn’t just one big reward for when you finish your resolution. Reward yourself for the small goals you have made. Whether it’s treating yourself to a massage, having that bowl of ice cream, or maybe buying a few new books, invest in your overall health – mental and physical. Rewards will acknowledge all of your hard work thus far!
- Don’t be afraid of failure. You have to remember that we are human and we are not perfect. Everyone has a cheat day, but this does not give you the excuse to give up entirely! Start tomorrow with a fresh attitude and do not carry over any guilt that may lead you to giving up. Be as consistent as possible and you will achieve your New Year’s resolution and/or ultimate goals!
